If a tree falls in the forest, and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? What about if a golfer sinks a hole in one, but no one is there to see it? Raiders quarterback Derek Carr claimed to have this experience Thursday, holing in from 150 yards out while playing by himself.

The Twitter peanut gallery had plenty of fun at Carr’s expense, trolling the Pro Bowler for playing alone while also casting doubt on whether his miracle shot (which he says was the first hole-in-one of his career) actually occurred.

While having no one there to see it (the golf equivalent of making a half-court shot in an empty gym) certainly takes some of the luster away from Carr’s accomplishment, at least he didn’t have to pay for everyone’s drink, which is customary when a player shoots an ace. However, that doesn’t mean Carr is completely off the hook. Raiders newcomer Davante Adams says his former Fresno State teammate owes him a car, citing a promise he made last summer.

Carr is coming off one of his better seasons, setting a career-high in yards (4,804) while leading the Raiders to their first playoff appearance in five years. It’s been a good offseason for quarterbacks on the links with Carr’s division rival, Justin Herbert, draining a hole-in-one while golfing with teammate Keenan Allen last month.
