Charles Barkley was not going to back down from his criticism of Kevin Durant.
Following the Nets’ loss to the Celtics on Monday, completing a four-game sweep, Barkley said, “if you ain’t driving the bus, don’t walk around talkin’ bout you a champion.”
Durant appeared to fire back on Instagram Tuesday morning, showing all the stars Barkley, who never won an NBA championship, teamed up, or “rode the bus with,” over his career.
During TNT’s pregame show Tuesday night, Barkley quipped back:
“You know it bothers him. He’s a sensitive Cindy,” Barkley said.
Barkley added more fuel to the fire: “You think they put that play-in banner up already? I could put up stuff about him and Russell [Westbrook] and James [Harden] and Serge Ibaka…Listen, KD is a great player. Only point I’m making is life is different when you’re driving the bus.”
Durant averaged 26.3 points per game in the four games against the Celtics, scoring more than 30 just once, in Game 4 on Monday night.
Barkley’s criticism of “don’t walk around talkin’ bout you a champion’ seems a little overly harsh, though.
Durant won two NBA Finals MVPs with the Golden State Warriors, although has been criticized because he joined a team consisting of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green to get there.
It’s arguable that Durant has already proven he could “drive the bus.” It will be interesting if he continues to respond to Barkley.
