Chiefs clinch fifth straight AFC West title with win over Dolphins

For the fifth consecutive season, the Kansas City Chiefs are the AFC West champions.

The Chiefs clinched the playoff berth with a 33-27 win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, overcoming a 10-0 deficit by scoring 30 unanswered points and holding off a late rally from the Dolphins.

The victory moved the Chiefs to 12-1 for the first time in franchise history, while winning the division for the fifth straight time is the longest consecutive division wins streak in franchise history, which they set last year.

The Chiefs’ win also secured a playoff spot for the Steelers, whom the Chiefs are still competing with for the No. 1 seed in the playoffs and share the same record. The Steelers were playing the AFC East-leading Buffalo Bills Sunday night on primetime.

Sunday’s game was not the prettiest win of the 2020 season for the Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes had his worst game of the year, throwing three interceptions, but still threw for 393 yards and two touchdown passes.

Tyreek Hill had just three catches but still made his mark on the game with a 44-yard touchdown catch and 32-yard rushing touchdown.

Next week, the Chiefs will head to New Orleans to play the NFC-best Saints in what could potentially be a Super Bowl preview.
