Corey Kluber’s 2020 season may be in danger before it really begins.
The Texas Rangers right-hander left Sunday’s game after just one inning with tightness in his right shoulder. He will undergo further evaluation on Monday, the team announced.
Per the Rangers, Kluber felt the tightness in his first few pitches and it did not improve.
The Rangers traded for Kluber from the Cleveland Indians this offseason in a low-risk, high-reward move to add the 34-year-old two-time Cy Young Award winner to the rotation.
Kluber started in just seven games last season, dealing with a broken forearm and oblique injury, making him a prime candidate for Comeback Player of the Year this season.
He is only two years removed from his last All-Star season in 2018 when he pitched to a 2.89 ERA and finished with 222 strikeouts in 215 innings pitched.
