The Dak Prescott injury left many fans feeling all sorts of emotions. Some sad, some shocked and others angry.
The latter decided to take out their anger on the Giants, which led to a lot of rage tweets directed at an unlikely player – Rashad Jennings.
But Jennings, a former Giants running back, retired from the NFL in 2016. So why were some Cowboys fans under the impression he was responsible for injuring Prescott?
Well, Jennings wore No. 23, and the Giants player who was involved on the play that injured Prescott was none other than No. 23 Logan Ryan. The confusion seemed to be exacerbated by a reporter for a Louisiana paper who identified Jennings as the tackler.
Despite the fact that Jennings would never be playing defense, this led some fans to place the blame on him. Jennings began receiving tweets about it and posted a screenshot of his name, presumably from a Google answer box of the incorrect article, that pointed to him as the culprit for ending Prescott’s season.
Just like politics. People write and believe anything on the internet. Some of y’all just simply have to do better. I’m working on my next book not playing football. pic.twitter.com/DTiJYW12xU

Some of the hate he received is documented below:

Jennings, meanwhile, offered his best wishes to Prescott and also called out the reporter, who has since apologized for his mistake, and requested a written article about the power and responsibility of journalists.
The same prayer goes out to all injured players. No man is higher or lower. #FamilyTies #NflTies. I don’t wavier based upon their fantasy points either. Phony’s

Accepted but not moved by an apology. I’d like a written “article” instead if an apology. I would like to see an opinionated article about the power and responsibility you and all journalist have to be accurate. I think it’s very timely. https://t.co/viX08GuufG

As for Ryan, the real tackler in the play, he actually had a very genuine reaction to the play, saying he “felt sick” about it.
