Ace right-hander Yu Darvish apparently learned of his impending trade from the Cubs to the San Diego Padres on Monday like most fans did – on social media.

Darvish tweeted in Japanese on Monday night that he didn’t get a call ahead of time from anyone informing him that he was about to be the centerpiece of a high-profile trade, which also features Chicago sending catcher Victor Caratini to San Diego in exchange for right-hander Zach Davies and four young prospects who are years away from the big leagues.

“Information that seems to have confirmed my trade came out from a leading source, but my cell phone does not ring,” Darvish tweeted, according to a Google translation. “What kind of system is it?”

The trade is still pending the review of medical reports for the players involved, according to reports. As of Tuesday mid-morning, neither the Cubs nor the Padres had officially announced the deal.

Darvish, 34, was the National League Cy Young runner-up in 2020 after posting a 2.01 ERA and 0.96 WHIP.
