Nebraska recruit Decoldest Crawford, who, amazingly is not a character from Key and Peele’s famous “East/West Bowl” sketch, will begin his collegiate career as a freshman receiver this fall. Due to his unusual name, the Shreveport, Louisiana native has already emerged as a fan favorite in Lincoln, even securing an NIL deal.

Capitalizing on his newfound fame, Crawford appeared in a pun-heavy local spot for Omaha-based SOS Cooling and Heating, delivering delightfully on-the-nose quips like, “Take it from Decoldest, we’ll keep you cool this summer” and “When your AC isn’t Decoldest, you call SOS Heating and Cooling.”
The jingle, the clunky dialogue, the amateur-ish graphics, the brilliant lack of subtlety—it all adds up to a low-budget masterpiece destined for viral success. Predictably, the ad has been a monster hit on social media, boasting over five million views and counting.
Some would argue NILs have forever polluted college sports, with athletes now prioritizing their earning potential over tradition and school spirit. And while there’s certainly been a tonal shift (the transfer boom and explosion of television rights money are equally to blame), at least we got this wonderfully campy commercial out of it.
A three-star prospect who chose Nebraska over scholarship offers from Arkansas, Ole Miss, Penn State, LSU and USC, Crawford suffered a knee injury in a recent scrimmage, putting him in danger of missing the Cornhuskers’ season opener August 27th against Northwestern. That game will be played overseas at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland.
