It’s no secret Jacob deGrom is the odds-on favorite to win the NL Cy Young this season. But his betting odds are also generating big action for the Cy Young futures market at William Hill. In a press release, the sportsbook outlined how much action deGrom is getting, as well as which other pitchers are also drawing Cy Young betting action.

According to the release, the futures market for the NL Cy Young has more than twice the total amount wagered as that for the AL Cy Young and nearly double the total number of tickets.

deGrom is the -200 favorite at William Hill, after opening at +300 in February. His odds then moved to +200 on Opening Day and then to -200 on June 22.

“His price is probably a little higher than normal just because there’s so much of the season left,” Nick Bogdanovich, Director of Trading for William Hill US, said in the press release. “But he’s won it multiple times and he looks so unhittable, so deGrom definitely warrants those odds. He’s had a few injury scares though. Any of these year-long awards are very tricky just because of the health factor.”

deGrom also leads in total number of tickets, with 14 percent, and total dollars wagered, with 49 percent among all the NL Cy Young bets at William Hill. There were a couple of sizable bets from two different Nevada bettors on deGrom’s odds. One bettor placed $5,000 on him at +200 for a $15,000 potential payout, and the other also placed $5,000 on deGrom at +180 for a potential payout of $14,000.

But there are some other pitchers generating action in this category as well. Corbin Burnes follows deGrom with +650 odds, then Walker Buehler and Brandon Woodruff, who both have odds of +1000. Trevor Bauer, who won the award last year, has +1200 odds. He is tied with Kevin Gausman.

And Burnes and Gausman are second and third, respectively, in number of tickets and total dollars wagered. Burnes has 11 percent of the total number of the tickets and 8 percent of the total dollars wagered, while Gausman is getting 9 percent of the tickets  and 7 percent of the total dollars wagered. The largest potential payout of any NL Cy Young futures wager at William Hill is one on Gausman. A Nevada bettor placed $2,000 on Gausman when his odds were +3000 for a potential payout of $62,000.

“We’re a small loser with deGrom, but we have more liability with Burnes and Gausman,” Bogdanovich also said. “(Julio) Urias and (Joe) Musgrove we also lose pretty good with.”

Should deGrom snag the NL Cy Young this year, it would be his third win in four years.
