New LSU basketball coach Kim Mulkey has signed a record deal to lead the Tigers, according to public records.

Mulkey, who won three national titles in her two-decade run at Baylor, has inked an eight-year deal worth just shy of $24M, the Daily Advertiser reported.

Only LSU football coach Ed Orgeron earns more among coaches employed by the school, the report said, while only legendary UConn coach and 11-time national-title winner Geno Auriemma earns more in the ranks of women's college basketball.

Former LSU athletic director Skip Bertman confirmed the contract was a record as far as he was aware, and said Mulkey was "worth every penny," the newspaper reported.

The 58-year-old Mulkey starred as a player at Louisiana Tech and later cut her teeth as an assistant there in the 1990s, before landing the head coaching job with the Bears in 2000. Her decorated tenure in Waco included the three titles, most recently in 2019, as well as two Coach of the Year nods.

Mulkey brings an astounding career regular-season record of 632-104 to Baton Rouge.

The Louisiana native seemed jovial and triumphant at her introductory news conference, boldly declaring she was ready to eat all the crawfish in her home state.
