Don't expect star cornerback Patrick Peterson to get dealt to New England, or anywhere for that matter

FOXBORO -- Over the last several days, there have been a few trade rumors involving Arizona cornerback Patrick Peterson and the Patriots.

But, it doesn't appear like it's going to happen.

According to Tom E. Curran of NBC Sports Boston, there hasn't been "a single conversation" with the Patriots about acquiring Peterson before trade deadline.

This makes sense as it would have been hard just to get him on the roster with his contract. His deal for the rest of this year would count just over $6 million against the cap, and right now the Patriots have just over $5 million in cap space. Also, he's signed through 2020 and the Patriots already are paying Stephon Gilmore a lot of money at that position.

It never really made sense for the Patriots, especially given their other needs on defense.

It also seems like Peterson won't be traded by the Cardinals at all.

The seven-time Pro Bowler put out a statement on his Twitter account Wednesday saying he's an Arizona Cardinal. It appears he wants to be part of the solution in getting the organization back on track.

The trade deadline is set for next Tuesday.
