It looks like hiring one coach away from Frank Reich's Indianapolis Colts wasn't enough for the Philadelphia Eagles.
After bringing in former Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni to replace Doug Pederson as head coach, the Eagles went back to the Indianapolis sidelines to bring in their replacement for Jim Schwartz, according to RADIO.COM Sports NFL insider Michael Lombardi.
Gannon had been a candidate in the search for a new defensive coordinator, and his impressive resume throughout his time working with the Colts and other secondaries looks like a logical fit with the Eagles. As Eagles writer Thomas R. Peterson notes, Gannon has worked with Sirianni in Indianapolis for the past three seasons and has helped to build some imposing pass defenses, with stints in Minnesota and Tennessee as well. He also has experience as a scout, working with the St. Louis Rams in that capacity from 2009 to 2011.
NFL insider Albert Breer had reported that Gannon was the "clear favorite" in the Eagles search and that he had "multiple coordinator offers." Breer added that Philly is working through the final stages of interviews.
Interestingly, just an hour prior to reports of Gannon's hire, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport shared that Washington DB coach Chris Harris would get an interview with the Eagles, though that seems like a moot point at this juncture.
