Former Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher Don Newcombe has died.
Newcombe was one of the major league's first black players. He went on to win Rookie of the Year, Most Valuable Player and receive Cy Young awards.
The Dodgers called Newcombe one of the greatest pitchers in their history. He pitched eight seasons with the team, both in Brooklyn and Los Angeles, from 1941-1959.
In 1949, at the age of 22-years-old, he was only the second rookie ever to start in a World Series Game, and he struck out 11 Yankees over eight innings.
Don Newcombe was 92-years-old.
