It never seems to be too late to pile on the Houston Astros.
The franchise’s sign-stealing scandal was the butt of a joke on Sunday’s new “Family Guy” episode, which showed the Griffin family sitting on the couch watching a “30 for 30” documentary on the Astros.
A man then appears on the screen in front of Hall of Fame plaques and a Dodgers jersey and says, “We knew the Astros were stealing signals. Someone was back there banging on a trash can. We just didn’t know who.”
The camera then panned over a Family Guy-created team picture of the Astros, with the narrator explaining that nobody would reveal the mastermind of the trash can-banging scheme, before Sesame Street’s Oscar the Grouch appears in the picture.
“Family Guy” has spent years providing social commentary and jokes to current events and sports. Perhaps one of the most shared clips of the show comes every March and April when Stewie is at Mets Opening Day. You know the one.
The Astros’ scandal was first brought to light last November and the team has been relentlessly mocked and ridiculed over the past year, becoming one of the most hated teams in all sports.
With no fans in the stands during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, you can bet that the jokes and taunting will still be coming in 2021.
