You’ve made it this far, why not make it a little further?
Everyone who’s advanced to this week’s fantasy football championship deserves a pat on the back—and maybe a stiff drink—for grinding the waiver wire harder than any human was ever meant to. I’ve made 47 transactions this season, which isn’t even the most in my 12-team league. Never in my wildest imagination did I envision myself starting Duke Johnson and Ronald Jones in the fantasy semi-finals, but with COVID rearing its ugly head, any and everything is on the table. Logic and conventional wisdom be damned. We’re living in a Hail Mary world, so why not embrace the chaos?
If your fantasy team is somehow still breathing, clinging to life like the protagonist of a movie from the zombie apocalypse genre, it’s because you shed blood, sweat and tears for it. Whether it was retreating to a quiet corner of your holiday party with the smartphone you promised not to use or obsessively scrolling Twitter (at the risk of carpal tunnel syndrome) for updates on James Conner’s ankle injury, we’ve all been there, afflicted by the sickness that is season-long fantasy football.
But we need the payoff, so let’s get set for Week 17 with one last look at waivers, stealthy starts and streamers ahead of Sunday’s goliath 15-game slate. Thanks to all who watched, listened and hopefully benefited from the takes and advice shared by myself, Jordan Cohn and Chris Emma on the Audacy Sports Fantasy Football Show as we put a bow on what was an eventful 2021 season.
