Two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo has reportedly been diagnosed with a hyperextended left knee, after he exited early from his team's loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday night.
Giannis is doubtful for Game 5 with the ailment, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
The 6-foot-11 power forward went down in a heap late in third quarter at Atlanta's State Farm Arena while trying to contest a dunk by Hawks center Clint Capela, in an apparent non-contact injury. Antetokounmpo grasped for his leg right away, prompting fears that yet another star had suffered a serious injury in these playoffs.
A separate report indicated that Giannis had no structural damage in the knee -- all ligaments were "sound," according to Zach Lowe of ESPN -- an encouraging development suggesting the injury wouldn't be considered serious in the long term.
Still, given the stakes -- an NBA Finals appearance is on the line -- if Giannis is listed as unlikely to play, that means he's likely in a pain or discomfort. Hawks star Trae Young, meanwhile, was sidelined for Game 4 with a bone bruise in his foot.
