Marvin Harrison Jr. is one of the best college football players in the country. The Ohio State wide receiver is expected to be the first WR off the board in next year’s NFL draft, and he could go as high as the top overall pick.
Harrison Jr., the son of Hall of Fam wide receiver Marvin Harrison, is a Philadelphia native and took in the Phillies-Red Sox series this weekend at Citizens Bank Park. The star receiver tried his hand at baseball as a kid but it never stuck. He realized then and now how difficult it is.
WEEI’s Rob Bradford caught up with Harrison Jr. on the Audacy Original Podcast “Baseball Isn’t Boring” and the Ohio State wide receiver gave his take on hitting a home run vs. scoring a touchdown.
“I think hitting a home run is probably way more exciting than scoring a touchdown,” Harrison Jr. said (4:15 in player above). “The difficulty level of hitting a home run is probably about 10 times – maybe more than that – harder trying to score a touchdown and catching a football. So big props to those guys; a lot of work goes into it.”
Harrison Jr. showed out in this past season at Ohio State. The wide receiver made 77 catches for 1,263 cards and scored 14 touchdowns in 13 games.
His speed would likely make him a weapon on the basepaths, but getting on base is the tricky part.
“I think I played two years. I think I played right field and I was more so just trying to catch the deep balls. That’s all I did,” Harrison Jr. said. “I wasn’t good. I will say that. I wasn’t very good… I just hoped to try to get on base and if I got on base I can make it around.”
The debate over the hardest thing to do in sports may never be answered. However, Harrison Jr.’s assertion is a pretty strong one from one of the best young wide receivers on the planet.
