It took a big comeback from a 19-3 deficit last week, but the Philadelphia Eagles at 5-6 are still very much alive in the NFC East race. If the New Orleans Saints beat the Dallas Cowboys and the Eagles take care of business Monday night against the Washington Redskins, it will be a three-way tie atop the division. The Eagles have hardly looked like defending Super Bowl champions, but with QB Carson Wentz and the talent that they have, they can turn this around quickly. The Redskins are asking for a lot from backup QB Colt McCoy, whom they say they are confident in running the show. They need him to attack a banged-up Eagles secondary.

The trajectory of the Redskins season changed when QB Alex Smith went down for the season with a badly broken leg. The Redskins have lost their past two games and are trying to avoid a free fall. They still can win the division; the remaining schedule is New York Giants, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans, and Eagles again. McCoy is a serviceable backup. He's not as accurate as Smith is, though he has the ability to run with the football. McCoy passed for 268 yards and two TDs last week against a strong Dallas defense. Adrian Peterson has been running the ball well. Kapri Bibbs ran for a TD last week. Jordan Reed and Vernon Davis are reliable options; rookie WR Trey Quinn had his first career receiving TD. On defense, they will rely on Ryan Kerrigan (team-high eight sacks) to bring the heat on Wentz. Linebacker Preston Smith had a career-high eight tackles and 1.5 sacks last week.
The Eagles find themselves with a shot to enter the postseason as NFC East champs. The problem is they still need to play the surging Houston Texans and explosive Los Angeles Rams. Wentz threw for 236 yards in a shaky come-from-behind win over the Giants. Josh Adams ran for a career-high 84 yards and a TD. Zach Ertz continues to be magnificent, leading the Eagles with 895 yards and 84 receptions. Trade deadline addition Golden Tate has done next to nothing with the Eagles. If there were ever a time for him to finally show up, it's Monday night. Malcolm Jenkins has led a depleted secondary; Chris Long and Michael Bennett have been their top pass rushers.
