Howard calls Shaq 'a little bit insecure'

Leave this one on the grill because the beef is still simmering.

NBA legend-turned-analyst Shaquille O'Neal shared video of Dwight Howard getting roasted on MTV's Wild 'N Out last weekend. Howard, who was called Superman 2.0 earlier in his career as an homage to Shaq, responded with the comment: "We can have a roast battle if you want. I got 10 in the chamber for you lol."

O'Neal responded two hours later, saying: "I only battle with champions Lil man, you ain't in my division, you in Charles Barkley division. Focus on getting that ring brother."

In the grand scheme of social media beef, this is pretty tame stuff. But Howard wasn't about to let it go at that.

During the team's Media Day earlier this week, Howard reflected on the insults and offered a theory on the set on NBC Sports Washington.

"I like to joke and have fun. I don't go at other NBA players and NBA vets because I respect all of them. They came before me," Howard explained. "But he posted something and I was like, 'alright, I've got to say something back.' Then he said something online about the whole ring situation; he's got rings and I'm not in his league and all this stuff.

"If that's the only way to come back at all players then you really don't have too much to say. I think it's a little insecurity on his part, because they call him Superman and they call me  Superman. But I don't have a problem with him, personally. I think he's an unbelievable player and one of the most dominant ever.

"I don't have anything to say that's bad about him, I just think it's a little insecure when you're taking shots at guys that are 10-12 years younger."

Speaking to a larger media audience, Howard once again extended an offer to Shaq to roast battle any time he's interested.

"If you do want to get to a roast, I can roast with the best of them. I'm ready. I've got some in the chamber, some jokes in the chamber," Howard said with a laugh. "Let me say that so people don't think I'm gonna do anything crazy. It's all love. I don't have anything against him.

"He came before me as a pioneer in the game for a lot of guys that play my position. But I'm not gonna be quiet."
