The Texas Rangers are going to be without Jacob deGrom longer, but Bruce Bochy insists the starter has been working to get back on track.

deGrom is an elite talent, but the persistent struggles with injuries that marred his run with the Mets have thus far done the same thing in Texas. The 34-year-old has been out with right elbow inflammation since getting put on the injured list on April 29.

He was transferred to the 60-day injured list Monday, meaning he won’t be available until at least June 28th at the earlier. To date, he’s made six starts for the Rangers in the first season of a five-year, $185 million deal.

Bochy said Tuesday in his weekly appearance on the K&C Masterpiece that deGrom will get more imaging done and they’ll go from there.

“I can tell you this, that Jacob is probably the most frustrated as anybody,” Bochy said. “Trying to get this going, obviously there’s concern, it’s not happening as fast as we’d like. We’re going to have some information today, get another picture of it, see what else is going on. I can tell you this, this guy has been working his tail off to get back.

“He’s been throwing long bullpens, he’s been shortening up the bullpens,” Bochy continued. “I stood in there for one bullpen, and it is amazing the gift this guy has. But it’s just not quite coming around like he had hoped, we had hoped and of course the fans were hoping …

“We’ll definitely have some information. But we know he’s on the 60-day, we know he’s not going to pitch in that three-week area, now we have to decide what we’re going to do, our next move, and the best thing for Jacob, the best thing for our club. We’ll have something today.”

The good news is that deGrom historically has bounced back well from injuries and regained ace form. He was off to a decent start this season before getting hurt, sitting at a 2-0 record with a 2.67 ERA and 0.758 WHIP.
