It is getting to the point where every time Jacob deGrom takes the mound, we have to note how historic his pitching has been this season.

On Saturday, the Mets right-hander tossed another seven shutout innings while striking out 11 in a 4-0 win over the Padres, lowering his league-leading ERA to 0.62 through nine starts.

That is the lowest ERA through nine starts ever in all of MLB history.

Bob Gibson’s mark of 1.12 in 1968 has been the best single-season ERA in the modern era. Dutch Leonard holds the record of 0.96, posting it in 1914 during the heart of the “dead-ball” era while a member of the Boston Red Sox.

DeGrom is ahead of both of those pitchers.

“Everything is special," manager Luis Rojas said, per MLB.com. “Altogether, it’s something that I don’t think anybody else has in the world. This guy, we can single him out as the best pitcher out there.”

If the rotation continues to stay on schedule, deGrom will take the mound next Saturday against the Padres again, at Citi Field, with a chance to go even lower.

How low can deGrom go will certainly be a theme in the foreseeable future for the 32-year-old ace.
