The long overdue move finally happened, Jarren Duran has finally been sent back to Triple-A. The move makes room for the returning Trevor Story, who is in the lineup for Saturday’s game.

Although Duran’s 2022 OPS is a slight improvement from his rookie season mark, a .220 average is a tough one for a player who’s expected to be a leadoff hitter. Even then, the larger issue for the soon-to-be 26-year-old was his defense.

Duran has -7 defensive runs saved this season. That number ranks seven-lowest among outfielders who’ve logged at least 450 innings this season, of which there are 97.

The Red Sox still have plenty of players who can play the outfield following Duran’s demotion: Kike Hernandez, Tommy Pham, Alex Verdugo, Rob Refsnyder, Christian Arroyo, Franchy Cordero and J.D. Martinez.
