Thursday was a special night for former New Orleans Saints star Joe Horn as his son, Jaycee, was drafted eighth overall by the Carolina Panthers.
Yet, Horn had a bit of a sour taste in his mouth on Friday morning.
The former NFL star was disappointed that most of the NFL Draft coverage HAS centered around Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and whether or not he will be traded.
“Let me say this, I’m a huge Aaron Rodgers fan,” Horn told David Newton of ESPN. “But last night when I saw that he was not happy with Green Bay … when I saw nothing at all was talked about my son, it kind of upset me, and I was disappointed.”
Horn was hoping to see discussion on how his son jumped up the draft board into the top 10 to be the first defensive player taken.
“To wake up this morning, I was expecting everybody to be saying, ‘Look, nobody thought Jaycee Horn was going to go top 10. Nobody expected he was going to be the first defensive player off the board,’” Horn said. “I thought it would be given a little more attention, and there was none. It was very disappointing as a father.”
Per ESPN, Horn had initially called Rodgers “selfish” before walking back those comments when informed that the Packers quarterback never said anything publicly, but it was rather a report that came out.
But Horn said whatever disappointment he felt was not evident to Jaycee, whom he said was “happy as ever.”
“I never let my emotions take over my thoughts,” Horn said. “But this morning after all that time, the fatherly instinct, love, came out of me. I’m just very happy he’s happy with the Panthers.”
