So this happened …
Where to start? Obviously, there’s a lot to unpack here with Drake (whose highly anticipated release, Certified Lover Boy, dropped Friday) packing plenty of outrageous moments into his new music video, “Way 2 Sexy,” which manages to be surreal, provocative and comically meta, all at the same time. Highlights include the rapper going full dad on the beach, rocking flip flops with white socks (shirt open, glorious beer belly exposed), an homage to campy 80s workout videos and Drake, dressed like Sylvester Stallone in Rambo, firing a rocket launcher for some reason. But what really had Twitter buzzing was Kawhi Leonard, looking strangely ethereal in all white, dancing with Drake, Future and Young Thug in front of a green screen.
This screen grab of the Clippers All-Star (formerly of Drake’s beloved Toronto Raptors) staring into space says it all. Take note of Leonard’s impossibly large hands. No wonder they call him “The Klaw.”
It’s only fitting that Leonard, known for his stoic court presence and tight-lipped demeanor in interviews, would make social media erupt without uttering a single word. Leonard isn’t the first athlete Drake (seen sporting a Kobe Bryant Lakers jersey at one point in “Way 2 Sexy”) has called on to make a cameo in one of his videos. Champagne Papi—as he’s often credited—has also collaborated with Antonio Brown (“God’s Plan”), Odell Beckham, Marshawn Lynch and Kevin Durant (“Laugh Now Cry Later”) in the past.
A two-time Finals MVP and former Defensive Player of the Year, Leonard returned to Los Angeles this summer after a brief free agency, re-signing for four years and $176.3 million. The 30-year-old forward is expected to miss most, if not all, of next season following ACL surgery.
