Keith Hernandez is one of a kind, and maybe even that is understating it.
The New York Mets legend and broadcaster for the team, who just had his jersey retired on Saturday, had quite the quip during Tuesday night’s broadcast when the topic of bobbleheads came up.
The Mets handed out Hernandez bobbleheads on Saturday and the color commentator mentioned that he was looking forward to play-by-play partner Gary Cohen’s bobblehead coming out.
“You’re going to be in the middle and we’re going to connect to you, [Ron Darling] and I,” Hernandez told him, which prompted the question if the bobbleheads of the SNY broadcasting crew were magnetic.
Hernandez soon got confirmation that the bobbleheads were indeed magnetic, leading to this colorful exchange:
Hernandez: “They are magnetic.”
Cohen: “Magnetic. Just like your personality.”
Hernandez: “Tell that to my two ex-wives.”
Cohen, quick on his feet, uttered, “well, we can all tell stories…let’s not.”
The crew then chuckled their way through the next pitch with Cohen, ever the professional, doing the play-by-play and attempting to fill fans in on how Orlando Arcia has been playing for the Braves.
That was certainly not your average commentary during a baseball game, but hey, he’s Keith Hernandez.
