Kentucky Derby coverage to feature betting trends

Steve Kornacki to join NBC Sports for Kentucky Derby coverage

Get your mint juleps and huge hats ready. NBC Sports announced on Monday their broadcast of this year’s Kentucky Derby will include betting insight from none other than Steve Kornacki. Kornacki will join the coverage team with on-site analysis of the race.

In a press release announcing the move, NBC Sports said Kornacki will “offer insight on notable betting trends,” as well as participate in other segments on the broadcast.

“It’s going to be a thrill to be at Churchill Downs on the first Saturday in May, something I’ve wanted to do since the very first Derby I watched as a kid in 1987,” Kornacki said in the release. “To get to play a role with the NBC Sports team, which I’ve been a fan of for years, is an honor.”

Kornacki is an NBC News and MSNBC national political correspondent, but he has some experience breaking down sports. He brought his unique style of discussing politics to Football Night in America last fall to analyze the NFL playoff picture.

Here’s an example of how Kornacki operates, rolled-up sleeves and all.

NBC Sports’ coverage of the race begins on Saturday, May 1 at 2:30 p.m. ET.
