NBA superstar LeBron James has suggested he'd like to purchase the WNBA's Atlanta Dream in the wake of team owner Kelly Loeffler's apparent defeat in a runoff election in Georgia for her US Senate seat.

James, a four-time league MVP, took to social media early Tuesday morning in apparent response to Loeffler's narrow loss to Democratic opponent Raphael Warnock.

"Think I'm gone put together an ownership group for The Dream," James said in a tweet. "Whose in?"

The post included a photo of Atlanta Dream players wearing "Vote Warnock" shirts.

Several Dream players have publicly opposed Loeffler for her support of President Trump, and her dismissal of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Dream guard Renee Montgomery responded to James, saying "I'm ready when you are."

Loeffler's runoff election was one of two in Georgia, where Loeffler's fellow incumbent Senator David Perdue and challenger John Ossoff were also in an air-tight race by late Tuesday morning.

The elections could tip control of the US Senate back to the Democrats, with Vice President-elect Kamala Harris representing the potential tiebreaking vote if the Senate were split evenly between 50 Democrats and 50 Republicans.

James' voter turnout initiative, More Than a Vote, helped register voters and provided transport for those unable to reach polls on their own. The group was active in such efforts in the months leading up to November's national elections.
