Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes on Thursday voiced support for his fiancee, Brittany Matthews, a day after critics on social media took aim at his future wife.
Mahomes and Matthews were seen sitting courtside with another couple for Wednesday night's Baylor-Texas Tech men's basketball game in Lubbock. At one point, the young couple appeared to have a brief lovers' spat.
The seemingly minor disagreement was seized on in some corners of social media, with one high-engagement tweet captioned, "Poor Patrick. Have to feel for the guy."
Mahomes apparently caught wind of the gossip, and didn't seem to appreciate the attention and speculation about his personal life.
"Man people are weird... love you babe," Mahomes said, adding a heart emoji and tagging Matthews.
Matthews responded with a sweet "I love you" and praying and heart emojis.
The former high school sweethearts became engaged in September 2020, on the same day the Chiefs received their Super Bowl rings after knocking off the 49ers in the big game earlier that year.
The couple welcomed their first child in February 2021, a daughter named Sterling.
Matthews and Mahomes' younger brother, Jackson, have previously come under criticism on social media on a couple occasions over questionable behavior at some of Patrick's games. But there's little doubting the 2018 NFL MVP's loyalty to his friends and family.
Mahomes' appearance at the in-state rivalry game was a hit at his alma mater, with the school thanking him for coming out to support the home team during a big win.
