Mark Cuban: ‘I require my employees to be vaccinated’

By , Audacy Sports

Dallas Mavericks owner and billionaire businessman Mark Cuban probably has a lot of stuff on his plate at all times, but that doesn’t mean he’s too busy to put people in their place when he strongly believes in something. You’ll see him engage in fierce Twitter battles or heated conversations — these days, largely regarding the COVID-19 vaccine — and recently, those on the other end of the discussion have included Clay Travis, Cole Beasley and Ted Cruz.

See a theme? Clay Travis has called a vaccine mandate “madness.” Cole Beasley has been arguably the most outspoken voice against a vaccine mandate in the NFL, though he claims not to be for or against the vaccine. Ted Cruz has heavily criticized Joe Biden’s federal vaccine requirements. And Mark Cuban, who is clearly passionate about just this, isn’t going to sit in silence regarding such an important topic.

The same week that Texas governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order that prohibits forcing employees or customers to get the COVID-19 vaccine, Cuban joined “10 Questions With Kyle Brandt” and said he wants to do the opposite for his staff (h/t Selby Lopez of The Dallas Morning News). It is unknown whether this episode was recorded before or after Abbott’s order, though the episode was made available to listen to the day after Abbott’s order.

“It is your choice [to get vaccinated]. It is absolutely, positively up to you. But there’s consequences that come with that, you know?” Cuban said. “If you work for me, I require my employees to be vaccinated, unless there’s a doctor’s reason where they can’t be. Like you, I don’t want my kids to be at risk.

“So, you know, the consequences of you not being vaccinated is I’m not gonna shut the f--- up. I’m gonna be in your motherf------ ear, driving you motherf------ crazy. You know that ‘Sopranos’ episode where Tony Soprano, or that guy started blasting the music just to drive the neighbor crazy?

“That is going to be me, I’m going to be in your ear, telling you, ‘vaccinate.’ And I’m gonna be giving you all the stats. I’m not gonna talk any sh-- but numbers and facts until you do it. And if you don’t? I’m still gonna be talking to you.”

In late September, the Mavericks announced that they would be requiring all fans who attend games this season to show proof of vaccination or produce a negative test within 48 hours of attending the game.
