Matt Harvey is listed as a potential witness in the trial surrounding the death of Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs and on Tuesday it was revealed to what extent of a role he may have in the trial.
According to ESPN’s T.J. Quinn, the defense attorney in US vs. Eric Kay said in his opening statement of Tuesday’s jury selection that Harvey, who played for the Angels at the time, will be named as a possible drug source for Skaggs.

The attorney added that Kay, the former Angels communications director facing federal charges in Skaggs’ death, said the night Skaggs died he asked the pitcher where he got pink pills. Skaggs told Kay, “those are Percocets I got from Harvey.”
Meanwhile, the government opened by stating only Kay could have given Skaggs the drugs he took when he died and did not name Harvey, but said an unnamed player will testify he had given Skaggs pink pills, according to Quinn.
Quinn also noted that there was no Percocet found in Skaggs’ system when he died.
In addition to Harvey,Andrew Heaney, Garrett Richards, C.J. Cron, Blake Parker, Mike Morin and Cam Bedrosian are all players on the witness list for the prosecution.
Skaggs was found dead in his hotel room while the Angels were on the road to play the Texas Rangers on July 1, 2019. He was 27.
An autopsy showed traces of fentanyl, oxycodone and alcohol in his system and an ensuing investigation determined that Kay allegedly supplied the opioids found in Skaggs to players.
Per Quinn, the government said that the players Kay allegedly supplied opioids to will be named and that Kay got the opioids from the umpire’s clubhouse attendant at the ballpark.
Kay is being charged with the possession and distribution of controlled substances and could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
