DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Kristaps Porzingis era in Dallas has come to and end.

Just before Thursday's trade deadline, the Dallas Mavericks agree to a deal sending Porzingis and a second round pick to the Washington Wizards, in exchange for guard Spencer Dinwiddie, and stretch big Davis Bertans.

The Mavs will now officially concede their mistake in trading for Porzingis in four seasons ago, with the big man never truly finding his fit alongside Luka Doncic in Dallas.

With Porzingis in the lineup, the Mavs were 19-15 overall and averaged 108 points per game. Without him, they were 13-8, and scored 103.7 points per contest.

In Dinwiddie, the Mavs will be receiving the secondary ball handler and playmaker that they so desperately needed to add to their lineup.

The Mavs will also be getting some much-needed three-point help in Bertans, who is a career 40-percent shooter from deep.

Dinwiddie has played and started in 44 games for the Wizards this season, averaging 12.6 points and 5.8 assists per game,

Dinwiddie has three years and $54 million remaining on his contract, and will be a free agent in 2024. His contract in 2023-24 is only partially guaranteed.

Bertans has four years and $64 million remaining on his contract, and will be an unrestricted free agent in 2025, with an early termination option in the 2024-25 season.

Porzingis, meanwhile, had three years and $101 million left on his deal, with a player option in 2023-24.

This season, Porzingis is averaging 19.2 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game, while shooting 28 percent from three.

Porzingis has not played for Dallas since January 30, after battling a knee injury, and has played in just 34 of 55 games this season.

Since coming to Dallas, Porzingis has played in only 134 of 328 possible regular season games since the 2018-19 season, and has never played a full season.
