What a week it has been for Baker Mayfield.
Just two days after arriving in Los Angeles, Mayfield led the Rams to an improbable comeback win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
Down 16-3 in the fourth, Mayfield made good use of the ball when he had it. In their first drive of the quarter, Mayfield and the Rams marched 75 yards down the field, punching it in with Cam Akers rush on the goal line to pull within six.
The Rams got the ball back with just 1:45 to play and the ball on their own 2-yard line. Across eight plays and 95 seconds, Mayfield led Los Angeles down the field, capping it off by connecting with Van Jefferson on a 23-yard pass to secure the comeback win.
Mayfield had been put on waivers by the Panthers on Monday. Carolina told him he would be the No. 3 quarterback, to which he responded with a request that they waive him. That wish was granted, and days later he was leading an impressive comeback for the reigning Super Bowl champs.
While the Rams’ season is lost, Mayfield has a good opportunity in front of him to bolster his standing as he prepares to hit free agency for the first time this offseason. He's off to a good start.
