A day after tweeting his goodbye to the city of Philadelphia, Miles Sanders is officially gone.
The free agent running back agreed to terms with the Carolina Panthers on Wednesday, the team announced.
Sanders, 25, spent the last four seasons as the lead running back for the Eagles, including an impressive 2022 campaign in which he rushed for 1,269 yards and 11 touchdowns for the NFC champions.
But Sanders’ time with the Eagles appeared headed to an end and it became more evident when he shared his goodbyes with the fan base on Tuesday following the Eagles’ moves of signing Rashaad Penny and re-signing rotational back Boston Scott.
Sanders heads to Carolina where he will be reunited with former Eagles running backs coach Duce Staley, who holds the same position with the Panthers and is an assistant head coach.
Per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Staley played a huge role in Sanders landing with the Panthers.
Sanders had more of a pass-catching role his rookie season working with Staley, finishing with 50 catches and 509 yards with three touchdowns that year. Since then, Sanders has not had more than 200 yards receiving, nor has he scored a receiving touchdown.
The Panthers are currently in a rebuild mode under new head coach Frank Reich, who was the Eagles offensive coordinator from 2016-17 (prior to Sanders’ arrival). They just traded up to the first overall pick in the draft where they will likely take a quarterback to turn the franchise around.
