Where will two-time Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom sign in free agency?
It's the question at top of every Mets fan's offseason wish list.
But a newly published poll of baseball executives would seem to suggest that Mets fans who want to see deGrom back in Queens have little to worry about.
According to ESPN MLB reporter Jesse Rodgers, a full two-thirds of a 12-person panel of "team executives and MLB insiders" think the 34-year-old ace will re-sign with the Mets.
Only four of those polled cast their vote for deGrom signing elsewhere.
One possible destination is Texas, with the Rangers previously reported to have expressed interest in deGrom. And earlier this week, it was reported that the Tampa Bay Rays have also spoken to deGrom, who is a native of DeLand, Florida, and played his college ball at Stetson.
If deGrom does indeed move on, one of those four voters indicated that the Mets would "move to quickly replace" him.
Who that would be, remains in question.
Among the top free agent starters are Justin Verlander -- who turns 40 in February -- and left-hander Carlos Rodon.
It's unclear what type of contract deGrom can secure in free agency given his age and recent injury history. Keith Law of The Athletic recently predicted that deGrom could get as much as $40 million per year on a short-term deal of "no more than three years."
