The Washington Nationals took a big blow to their lineup on Tuesday.

Prior to their matchup with the St. Louis Cardinals, the team announced that right fielder Juan Soto was placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained left shoulder. Yadiel Hernandez was recalled to take Soto’s spot on the roster.

The 22-year-old has made 61 plate appearances thus far this season and has posted a slash line of .300/.416/.460 with two home runs and eight RBI.

He joins starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg on the IL, who was scratched from Sunday’s start due to right shoulder inflammation.

The loss of both Strasburg and now Soto is a tough pill to swallow for the Nationals, who have sputtered to a 5-9 start to the season, including losses in their last two games entering Tuesday.

It is unclear when either will be back.

Andrew Stevenson will start in place of Soto against the Cardinals.
