BOSTON (WEEI.com) -- The New England Patriots will have a new left tackle for the second straight year.
Trent Brown has agreed to sign a four-year, $66 million deal (more than $36 million guaranteed) with the Oakland Raiders, according to multiple reports. This contract is the highest for an offensive linemen in NFL history, which means for the second straight offseason a Patriots lineman has left and received the highest deal in NFL history (following Nate Solder's departure in 2018 for a four-year, $62 million deal with the New York Giants).
Brown was solid in his lone year in New England, but many have pointed out it was a contract year. His effort was questioned at times with the San Francisco 49ers, one of the reasons why he was dealt to the Patriots last year during the draft.
Second-year player Isaiah Wynn likely will be asked to replace Brown. Wynn spent last season on injured reserve following an impressive summer. The Patriots likely will make sure there's a veteran behind Wynn as an insurance policy (potentially LaAdrian Waddle).
