Things are getting interesting in the Red Sox' search for their next manager.
Earlier this week it was learned that Alex Cora would be one of those interviewed or the position, with some of the candidates being told they were no longer in the mix.
Now comes news that the field may be narrowed down to five candidates, including one name that hadn't previously been surfaced -- Sam Fuld.
The almost-39-year-old Fuld has never held a managing or coaching position since his retirement in 2017, having worked in the Phillies front office the last three seasons as their director of integrative baseball performance.
Fuld, who has turned down previous opportunities to interview for managing jobs with the Pirates, Cubs and Mets, would be seen as a benefit for the organization's quest to integrate analytics. He also has a previous relationship with Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom, having played for the Rays from 2011-13.
Fuld is a native New Englander, having gone to high school at Phillips Exeter Academy after being born in Durham, N.H.
