NFL fans lament end of 'Collinsworth Slide' as Al Michaels makes Amazon debut

By , Audacy

We all knew the moment would come, but it still hurts.

Folks, it’s time to say goodbye to the "Collinsworth Slide."

If you watched the previous iteration of the Sunday Night Football booth, you’ve seen it. Minutes before kickoff on Sunday nights during the football season, Al Michaels would give his opening hit. He’d speak for a few moments by himself before, invariably, analyst Cris Collinsworth would slide into the frame with a smirk. Type "Collinsworth slide" into YouTube, and you'll be met with heaps of compilations.

It was a minute detail, but one that ended up taking on a life of its own. But Michael left for Amazon this offseason, leaving Collinsworth with Mike Tirico on Sundays. And when Michaels made his Amazon debut for Thursday’s Chargers-Chiefs game, he was all by himself.

When NFL fans had to finally accept that we had seen the last of Collinsworth sliding into vision alongside Michaels it was a sad moment (for some, at least).

Michaels now is paired with Kirk Herbstreit in the booth. Maybe they'll have something of their own, but there's a high bar to clear.
