Top quarterback recruit Quinn Ewers made waves earlier this summer when he decided to forego his senior and enroll at Ohio State.
Now, Ewers is already reaping those benefits before even taking a single snap.
The 18-year-old reached an agreement with GT Sports Marketing, an autograph vendor, worth $1.4 million over three years as part of a name, image and likeness deal, according to Action Network’s Darren Rovell.
It is believed to be the largest NIL deal for a college athlete since it became allowed on July 1.
The ability to profit off of his NIL was the main factor on why Ewers decided to skip his senior season of high school and join Ohio State as he would not be able to do so as a high school athlete in Texas.
While Ewers is already inking lucrative NIL deals, it still remains to be seen whether or not he will even play this season.
Ohio State head coach Ryan Day recently named C.J. Stroud as the starting quarterback for the Buckeyes’ opener against Minnesota, although he would not commit to him as the full-time starter.
None of the four quarterbacks on Ohio State’s roster have played a down in a collegiate regular season game yet, but Ewers is still viewed as a longshot as he did not join the team until mid-August and still needs to get acclimated not only to the playbook, but also the rest of the team environment and campus.
