Despite posting a four-run seventh inning, the Orioles lost 8-6 to the Chicago White Sox. On a night where seemingly everything did not go Baltimore's way to start the game, they found a way to battle back, but the comeback attempt fell short.
Luis Ortiz made his first major league start, and he picked up his first major league loss. Ortiz only went 1 2/3 as he left in the second inning due to an injury. However, he was struggling with command in a limited showing as his pitch count nearly eclipsed 45. Ortiz allowed one run on three hits.
Chicago broke the tie first, and they never looked back. Daniel Palka hit an RBI-single. The White Sox added to their lead in the second with two hits and two more runs.
Baltimore finally answered with a Trey Mancini solo homer.
Again, Mancini was the Orioles' answer as he hit another solo homer in the fourth inning.
In the seventh inning, the Orioles made their run. After Aaron Bummer walked the bases loaded, Corban Joseph hit a two-RBI single after pinch-hitting for Austin Wynns.
Chicago responded the following inning with a solo homer to extend their lead to two.
The Orioles would only record one hit in the final two innings, and their comeback attempt fell short. Baltimore is now 42-105 after dropping the first of a three-game series with the struggling White Sox.
