Even for big, bad major leaguers — with their toughness and their fearless nature in the face of 100-plus mph fastballs — getting hit by a pitch is no fun. It can leave a pretty nasty bruise or worse, and we know what the worst-case scenario can be after watching Kevin Pillar and Bryce Harper get hit in the face with pitches of ever-increasing velocity in 2021.
Fortunately, in the case of Nationals outfielder Victor Robles — who is one of nine unlucky NL players with at least 6 HBP on the season — all that seemed to be left after Chris Martin beaned him in the top of the ninth was a wittle boo-boo. And that's where Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies swooped in to the rescue.
You don't see too many kisses on a major league ball field unless, of course, Morganna "The Kissing Bandit" Roberts happened to be in attendance.
Think that would fly in COVID times?
The Albies and Robles interaction was just a little bit less romantic than what we saw from Morganna, however, and it's typical Albies-esque behavior to have some fun while he's playing. Heck, if I were hitting like he was right now — he's slashing .343/.425/.743 over his last 40 plate appearances — I'd be having a pretty good time as well, even if the Nats did end up on top at the end of this one.
The only person who might not have enjoyed the hilarious exchange between Albies and Robles? Ronald Acuna Jr., who doesn't want to see one of the best bromances in baseball get taken away from him by a division rival.
