Patrick Mahomes' baseball roots needs no explaining, and his love of the game was on full display on at least a couple occasions this week.

The 2018 NFL MVP was apparently glued to his television for Thursday night's novelty "Field of Dreams" game, which was staged at the site of the beloved movie's shooting location in Dyersville, Iowa.

Mahomes fired off a couple tweets during the back-and-forth thriller between the White Sox and Yankees, which ended with a dramatic two-run walk-off bomb by Pale Hose shortstop Tim Anderson.

In the top half of the sixth inning, Mahomes marveled at the nasty stuff of White Sox reliever Michael Kopech, a former top prospect who has re-established himself this year after missing three seasons due to injury and opting out in 2020.

Kopech was summoned in the sixth inning to bail the Sox out of a jam with two runners on base and no outs, after starter Lance Lynn labored through five-plus innings in the apparently hitter-friendly confines of the cornfield diamond.

Much to Mahomes' pleasure, Kopech promptly stranded both baserunners without allowing a run, first inducing a harmless groundout and then fanning the next two hitters.

"Man Kopech is nasty," Mahomes observed, punctuating his tweet with a series of flame emojis.

Later, when Chiefs teammate Gehrig Dieter joked that the game was "rigged" after Anderson's walk-off blast, Mahomes seemed to shut down the conspiracy theory.

The game capped a baseball-heavy week for Mahomes, who was spotted rocking a Royals powder-blue alternate -- with his newborn daughter, Sterling Skye, sat on his lap -- in a luxury box at the Yankees-Royals game in Kansas City on Wednesday.

Mahomes starred in baseball as well as hoops in high school, and has credited his experience in both sports with honing his skills on the gridiron. His father, of course, is Pat Mahomes, a former MLB pitcher with the Twins, Red Sox, Mets, Rangers, Cubs and Pirates.
