Patrick Mahomes has plenty reason to feel cheerful this holiday season.
The Kansas City Chiefs are winners of seven straight to put themselves in first place in the AFC, and at home, he will be celebrating his first Christmas as a father.
“I’m super excited,” Mahomes told 610 KCSP’s The Drive on Monday. “Santa’s going to be coming to the house. Presents everywhere…it’s going to be a special moment.”
So what, exactly, was Mahomes’ favorite Christmas gift growing up?
“My gift was actually a basketball goal,” Mahomes said. “I had a basketball out in my driveway and I used that thing my entire life until one day I actually broke it. It was an awesome gift to get and something I wanted for years.”
Surely, with Mahomes’ athletic prowess, the only way he could have broke it was by throwing down a vicious dunk, right?
“Me and my buddy were at the house playing and we were practicing halfcourt shots and I threw a basketball and it hit the backboard and broke the glass on the back of the backboard,” he said. “So, that broke the basketball goal and we got it replaced eventually, but it took a long time.”
In case you were wondering, Mahomes was a pretty good basketball player back in high school, too.
