Now we know why the Patriots traded for Trent Brown last week.
According to Jim McBride of The Boston Globe, the Patriots have traded offensive tackle Marcus Cannon to the Texans. The teams will swap picks in the fourth, fifth and sixth rounds.
Cannon, 32, had a cap hit of $9 million this coming season and there was a thought the team would release him. Instead, the Patriots pick up some draft capital in return.
New England will move up a few spots in each of those rounds.
Brown could replace Cannon at right tackle, as that is where he played with the Raiders. This would mean Isaiah Wynn will remain at left tackle.
