Rachel Balkovec, the manager of the Yankees’ Low-A affiliate, the Tampa Tarpons, is still resting and recovering after being hit in the face with a baseball during a team drill earlier this week.
The groundbreaking manager posted an update on Thursday, sporting a badly bruised eye but said she was doing well and feeling “extremely lucky.”
“Well, I *DID* have several modeling contracts lined up, but this put a wrench in those plans,” Balkovec joked in an Instagram post.
“Thanks for all of the messages - Just feeling extremely lucky, and also like I’ll never throw side flips again for the rest of eternity.”
The 34-year-old Balkovec is the first woman to hold a managerial position in the history of affiliated baseball. She is expected to miss the next week of camp.
