The Boston Red Sox do not have a whole lot to celebrate this season, but on Tuesday their social media team made sure to mark one special achievement: resetting the luxury tax.
The Red Sox Twitter account posted a photo of a finger hitting the reset button on a keyboard with the caption “iykyk” – meaning “if you know, you know.”

Needless to say, the tweet did not go over well with the rest of Red Sox Nation, which reacted with a flurry of angry replies to the tweet.
By resetting the luxury tax, the Red Sox ownership group no longer has to pay a penalty for exceeding the tax.
In order to get to this point, the Red Sox – valued at $3.3 billion behind the Yankees and Dodgers in the MLB, per Forbes – decided to trade away their best player in Mookie Betts to the Dodgers, as well as a few others at the trade deadline on Monday.
Now, they sit in dead last in the AL East at 12-23 after winning the World Series just two years ago.
The Red Sox social media team eventually deleted the tweet and responded with a follow up, “You ever miss with a tweet? Same.”
It’s just been that kind of year for the Red Sox.
