Any hope that Trevor Story was coming back any time soon went out the window with news that he has been diagnosed with a small hairline fracture near his right wrist.

"The bone bruise is good. They found kind of like, close to the wrist, a little hairline fracture," said Red Sox manager Alex Cora before Saturday's game against Brewers. "The treatment doesn't change. You treat it the same way we're doing right now, basically like a strain. But the only thing that we have to do now is shut him down swing-wise for like a week and a half and see where we're at.

"It's something that is not a surprise for us. It's the same thing where the doctor feels like we keep doing what we're doing treatment-wise. We have to shut him down for 10 days and see where we're at. ... It's actually not the place he got hit. The bruise is OK. He kept feeling uncomfortable swing-wise and that's why he wanted a second opinion to see where he was at. The doctor agrees with us as far as the treatment. We just have to shut him down."

Story has been out since being hit by a pitch on July 12 at Tropicana Field.
