Following a series of offensive social media posts, the Boston Red Sox have released former third-round pick Brett Netzer, per Chad Jennings of The Athletic.
Netzer sent out a series of racist, homophobic, transphobic and anti-Semitic tweets Saturday, while also making offensive posts on Instagram and Facebook.
In one Instagram story, Netzer shared a screenshot of a couple of his tweets aimed at Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom, with the caption "release me." After he learned that his request was granted, Netzer had this response on Twitter:

Netzer hadn't played in the Red Sox organization since the 2019 season. The 2020 minor league season was cancelled because of COVID-19, and Jennings hears that Netzer was on the restricted list during the 2021 season.
