The New York Jets caught a break when Zach Wilson’s preseason knee injury was not season-ending, and now it appears he could get even be ready to start Week 1.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh said that “it’s possible” Wilson could be starting under center for Sunday’s season opener against the Baltimore Ravens.

“We put Zach through a workout today. [He] looked good, felt good,” Saleh said. “We are going to see how the knee responds today and tomorrow and have an answer for everyone on Wednesday.”

Wilson, the Jets first-round pick in last year’s draft, tore the meniscus and sustained a bone bruise in his knee on a non-contact play against the Philadelphia Eagles on Aug. 13.

The second-year quarterback underwent arthroscopic surgery and was expected to need two-to-four weeks to recover.

“Everyone heals differently,” Saleh said. “We’ll see what happens tomorrow but …everyone responds differently.”

If Wilson cannot play, the Jets will likely turn to backup quarterback Joe Flacco.
