Ryan Fitzpatrick’s playing days are over but NFL fans will still get to see the bearded quarterback throughout the season.
Prime Video announced on Tuesday that Fitzpatrick would officially join its NFL pregame, halftime and postgame coverage for Thursday Night Football this season.
“Although my playing career has come to an end, my love for football has not,” Fitzpatrick said in a statement released by Amazon. “I’m excited to start this new chapter with Thursday Night Football and looking forward to sharing my unique experiences and perspectives with football fans.”
The longtime journeyman quarterback joins Tony Gonzalez and Richard Sherman (who is not yet officially retired) as part of Amazon’s coverage.
Fox Sport’s Charissa Thompson will host Amazon’s coverage while Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit will be on the call in the booth in the streaming service’s first season with exclusive rights to Thursday Night Football.
The 39-year-old announced his retirement earlier this month after a 17-year career with nine teams, including the Bills, Bengals, Dolphins, Jets, Rams, Bucs, Texans, Titans and Washington.
In an interview with Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, Fitzpatrick said working for Amazon in particular appealed to him.
“Amazon jumped out at me in terms of something that’s fresh and new,” he said. “It just made a lot of sense of what I was trying to get into. … And, also, for me to be able to sit down with my kids and watch some of these game on Sunday It is something I haven’t had a whole lot of time to do these last 17 years.”
