Switzer, a fourth-round pick out of the University of North Carolina in 2017, revealed on Twitter on Wednesday night that he's "still confused" about why the Cowboys traded him to the Raiders coming off his relatively successful rookie season.

Switzer's tweet came in response to a fan who posted a photo of Switzer and wondered "what could have been."

According to Switzer, he succeeded as a punt returner as well as a kick returner for the Cowboys, even though he never returned kicks with the Tar Heels. He claims he asked about getting more reps on offense but "never got any answers."

"Still confuses me why I was traded," Switzer said. "I think I was top 5 in both PR & KR. Never did KR in college, didn’t have any pre season that year so I had to learn on the fly. Finished top 3. I asked all season why I wasn’t getting any offensive snaps. Never got any answers."

Ahead of Switzer's second season, the Cowboys overhauled their stable of wide receivers, signing Allen Hurns, trading for Tavon Austin, and drafting Michael Gallup and Cedrick Wilson, seemingly all but sealing Switzer's fate. Switzer was then traded to the Raiders in exchange for defensive tackle Jihad Ward.

A Cowboys blogger responded to Switzer's post and suggested that there was no longer room for him on the depth chart, but Switzer disagreed with that idea.

Meanwhile, Switzer's former Cowboys teammate Dez Bryant, who was released by Dallas ahead of the 2018 season, seemed to agree with Switzer.

"this is a crazy coincidence because I really was up watching your highlights," Bryant said. "but you know what the issues was .."

Switzer didn't seem to latch on as a receiver in any of his professional stops after Dallas. He never suited up for the Raiders in a regular-season game, instead being traded to the Steelers during training camp in 2018. He mostly handled kick returns and punt returns for two seasons in Pittsburgh before later signing with the Browns, but he never appeared in a game for Cleveland, and retired last offseason.

For his career, Switzer appeared in 41 games with 50 receptions for 321 yards and a touchdown. He had 63 kick returns for 1,373 yards, and 67 punt returns for 537 yards and a touchdown.
